CHALLENGE

INSEAD prepares young managers for more senior roles as well as senior executives within their executive education programs as the business leaders of global brands. This requires INSEAD to recruit world class faculty and researchers to create the program content that will be relevant in the future. This has included more recent launches into areas such as distributed ledger technologies, data governance, the impact of new regulatory regimes and artificial intelligence.

The increasing impact of technological advances have increased the need to compete in a new environment, with traditional business models being undermined, leading to loss of competitiveness for many incumbents. INSEAD’s role is in delivering the tools and vision required by tomorrow’s leaders to create sustainable businesses.

INSEAD’s own global leadership position is dependent in turn upon attracting the best faculty to maintain their ranking, which in turn attracts new and innovative faculty and researchers who can provide leading edge input for the MBA and executive programs.

The renowned faculty of INSEAD have gone on to establish such establishments as the expansion of the Business School of Singapore, the creation of Samuel Curtis School of Management at Cornell University. To keep delivering at the highest level requires INSEAD to seek out those with the intellect, vision and communication to empower the various programs.

SOLUTION

We were contracted by INSEAD to bring our expertise in research and strategic visioning of how technology would impact on a particular sector and reinvent it over the following years. We created a case study for the client that detailed how the sector would have to evolve and how one particular player within the segment was extracting value from taking a strategy of implementing technology from the US to gain market position in Eastern Europe.

Our work entailed meeting with executives in multiple countries who were looking at business process transformation through technology strategy; working collaboratively with INSEAD leading faculty and analyzing the sector in detail to determine the advantages that could be attained.

We also undertook a major research program, in conjunction with INSEAD faculty, to create a further case on how southern European companies sought to catch up with northern European competitors through leveraging technology. The required interviewing business leaders of global brands in multiple countries to determine what the business drivers were and what were the limitations imposed upon their competitiveness.

RESULTS

The output of our work was published in academic journals, retained for use within INSEAD and as the technology advanced after our contracted work was completed, the cases have been adapted by subsequent researchers for use within the MBA and executive programs.

The INSEAD faculty collaborating with our contracted work include the recently retired President of the business University of Singapore and the current co-Chair of the World Economic Forum, based in Geneva, Switzerland.
